The first game of golf was played in Scotland in 1456. At least that's what surviving historical records say. But many think that golf was being played long before then, probably in the 12th century in Scotland and China.
Today's golf game is a popular spectator sport that is played around the world on more than 32,000 golf courses (more than half are in the US). Sports icons like Tiger Woods, Anika Sorenstam, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus have brought decades of drama and drive to the links. And after all these years, golf enthusiasts are still asking that all important question: How many dimples are there on a golf ball?
