Bob Dylan
Robert Allen Zimmerman was born May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, where he grew up listening to music on the radio. After he entered college at the University of Minnesota, he fell in love with folk music, traded in his electric guitar for the acoustic variety, and began performing under the name of Bob Dylan.
Early on, Dylan became involved in social activism, writing his music to underscore his point and his passion. His most famous song, Blowin' in the Wind, became a worldwide hit for Peter, Paul and Mary in the 1960s. Today, he continues to tour, write and sing, releasing a new album in July 2008: Tell Tale Signs: Rare And Unreleased 1989-2006.
The Beatles
Did you know the Beatles were one of the most commercially successful bands in all of music history? That they have sold more albums than any other band in the US? That the Beatles' style of rock and roll gave them the number one spot on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Rock and Roll Artists of All Time?
But their impact was more far-reaching than music. Since John Lennon,
Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr took the stage on The Ed Sullivan Show in early 1964, our culture has never been the same. Beatlemania brought new fashion trends, long hair for men, andâ??bad or goodâ??a new way of looking at life.
