Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in East Harlem in New York City in 1971. He was an American rapper and a successful recording artist whose songs centered on social activism. These views were reflected in his first album "2pacalypse Now," which was released in late 1991. His short life was filled with legal issues, shootings, a prison term, and conflicts with other rappers. He was shot to death in Las Vegas in 1996. Tupac was admitted to the Hip Hop Hall of Fame in 2002, and MTV placed him in the #2 spot on their list of the Greatest MCs of All Time.
