A panorama is generally defined as an extended view that is unobstructed in every direction. The first panorama art was presented in 1792 by Irish painter Robert Barker, when he displayed his panoramic paintings of Edinburgh at a London art show. Michelangelo is also known for his divine panoramic paintings. Landscapes and historical events were the typical subjects of early panorama art. For example, the "Atlanta Cyclorama," first displayed in 1887, depicts the Battle of Atlanta during the Civil War.
At the birth of wide angle camera lenses, panoramas took on a whole new life. Cityscapes are the most popular object of the panoramic photographer's affection. The works of photographersJames Blakeway is a good example of contemporary panoramic art.
