One of the most recognized Asian painters was Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). His popular painting "The Great Wave of Kanagawa," launched his fame in Asia and in the Western world. In China, Shen Zhou (1427 -- 1509) was a famous painter in the Ming Dynasty. Nguyen Thanh Binh is a contemporary Vietnamese artist (1954- ) who was born in Hanoi and now lives in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
