The summer is only half over and already there are several terrific movies playing at the theater. And the focus is incredible special effects that will awe even the most dyed-in-the-wool movie fan. HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
It’s another year at Hogwarts and, as usual, it’s a magical one, as Harry and his friends fight the forces of darkness. After a two-year break, HP fans are loving this one, and it shows at the box office. By the end of July, Harry Potter #6 had grossed a whopping $627 million worldwide.
ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS
Once again, Disney has a summertime animated hit and, in this sequel Ice Age fans can enjoy the fun of digital 3-D. In this film, the world of the Sub-Zero Heroes takes a tropical twist and introduces a new, not-so-nice character. The voices of Ray Romano and Queen Latifah add a nice touch.
TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN
Once again Shia LaBeouf and the Autobots take on the evil Decepticons. Add sought-after actress Megan Fox and over-the-top special effects to the mix and the result is a spot near the top of the 2009 summer box office. Here’s a film that takes “change” to a whole new level!
TERMINATOR: SALVATION
In this fourth Terminator movie, John Connor (Christian Bale) is all grown up and he’s leading the humans in the war against Skynet. This is the first Terminator movie without Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role (but Bale is nothing to sneeze at!). Actors aside, this special-effect-packed, fast-action film is thrilling movie-goers around the world.
MONSTERS vs. ALIENS
Here’s a fun, animated film by Dreamworks that’s also available in 3-D. Ginormica, the 49-foot woman, joins forces with Insectisaurus, The Missing Link, and Dr. Cockroach to fight invading aliens. Just think: monsters AND aliens in the same movie! You just can’t ask for much more than that!
